Take Time for Yourself – You Deserve It!

People (especially moms), have a tenancy to put their significant others and family before all else.  Unfortunately, that means putting themselves on the back burner.  But what we don’t realize is, that for many reasons, putting yourself above others can benefit your family, work life, and personal life even more in the long run.  Here’s why...

Exercise – For the obvious reasons, exercise will greatly benefit the body on the inside as well as outside.  Being able to be there for your partner as you age, for your children, and even for your grandchildren has a lot to do with living a healthy lifestyle.  Exercise is also good for your spirits; you’ll look and feel better, feel more energized and happy, be more likely to eat better, and you’ll definitely sleep better.

Squeeze in Some Alone Time – Alone time is so important!  Finding time for yourself, even if it’s just 15 minutes in the bathtub of five minutes of meditating with no noise or distractions, can do wonders for the soul.  When you don’t take that much needed time, you lose your sense of self.  When that happens, you can become stressed, resentful, and unhappy.  Your needs are as important as everyone else’s, so take the time and reward yourself by doing something for yourself.

Lose the technology – Take a break from phone calls, emails, and text messaging when you can.  If not at work, do so at home.  Be unreachable, even if only for a few hours.  Concentrate on what makes you happy for a change; enjoy a good book, take a walk in the park, or work in the garden.  Eliminating communication from the rest of the world can sometimes help put things into perspective, clearing our mind of the everyday stresses and distractions in life.
